Cong targeting Anna team members one-by-one: Prasad

Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary and chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday criticised the Congress-led central government for allegedly targeting members of Anna Hazare’s team who had launched an anti-corruption movement recently.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary and chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday criticised the Congress-led central government for allegedly targeting members of Anna Hazare’s team who had launched an anti-corruption movement recently.

Prasad said that the Congress has tried to harass every person who raised voice against its ministers who were involved in corruption in the past.

Prasad was talking in reference of Anna’s associate Arvind Kejriwal, against whom the Income Tax department has recently slapped a notice for dues of over Rs 9 lakh.

“The IT department has served a notice to Kejriwal after five years. Meanwhile, five Union ministers had meetings with Kejriwal for several weeks regarding Anna’s anti-corruption movement. But they never talked about any such dues earlier,” Prasad said.

The BJP leader said that same was the case of yoga guru Ramdev who also had started an agitation in Delhi against corruption.

The Enforcement Directorate has recently booked Ramdev and his Haridwar-based trust for violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Earlier, the Union ministers had welcomed Ramdev at Delhi airport when he had landed there to start the agitation.

Prasad said the Congress had similarly targeted Jai Prakash Narain and called him an agent of CIA. “Whenever the Congress had tried to exploit such persons who raised voice against corruption,it had to face defeat in next elections. Now after targeting team Anna and Ramdev, the Congress is again going to face defeat in the next Lok Sabha elections in 2014,” he added.

Prasad was in Lucknow to preside over a workshop of his party’s media-incharges in UP ahead of the Assembly elections. He said that Anna’s anti-corruption movement was a grand success.

He said that the Congress,Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have an alliance over the issue of corruption. He said that SP MPs had opposed Anna’s demands in Parliament recently. “Likewise,Mayawati had criticised police action on Baba Ramdev and his supporters in Delhi but she did not allow him to enter UP to stage dharna,” Prasad said.

Prasad also said Governor Houses in the country have turned offices of the Congress. He was speaking in context of Gujarat where Governor Kamla Beniwal has appointed retired justice R A Mehta as Lokayukta reportedly without consulting Narendra Modi government.
