Cong charts year-long plan to get NREGA rolling better

“The action plan has been decided after taking the high command into confidence. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections,the state government had done enough to sabotage the scheme,but we will not let it happen now,” said Sanjay Dixit,in-charge of NREGA cell of UP Congress.

“Our plan is simple. We will ensure that by 2012,maximum number of people are benefited by the scheme and at the same time are aware that it is a Central government scheme,” added Dixit.

For this reason,the party will project AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi as the brand ambassador of NREGA in the state.

The party will also begin to monitor the scheme in the state in a phased manner.

“At first,we will reach at least 10 families in each of the 62,000 gram panchayats of the state. The families will be those who have not been employed in spite of being entitled to get work under the scheme,” said Dixit.

After this,block and panchayat-level party workers will take the demand letters of jobs from such families and submit them to the block level office.

“Under the scheme,the government is bound to provide employment within 15 days of getting a demand letter,” Dixit added.

In July,Congress will hold a one-day training programme for party workers in every division of the state followed by districts and block level workshops.

In August,the party will organise a state-wide convention of the workers involved in the monitoring and publicity of NREGA,where Rahul Gandhi will be the chief guest.
