Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today warned bureaucracy of punitive action if they did not clear pending files in a week.
The tough talk was prompted after the industry severely criticised the state government over its style of functioning at Udhyami Mahasammelan, organised by Indian Industries Association along with the UP government for micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSME).
The CM said officers take things for granted because he speaks nicely. I will cite an incident where I asked an officer to complete a project in five months and he kept sitting on it. Then when I asked him to finally do it in a day,he gave me a two-page report on how the work cannot be taken up. Later,I spoke to the officer personally over the phone and asked him if it has happened because I speak nicely and do not humiliate officers. The job was done in the next two days, the CM said during his address at Udhyami Mahasammelan.
He said that in most of the cases,IAS officers tell him that noting in the files were wrong because of some clerk in their department. If IAS officers have to follow what clerks in the departments tell them, then what for they are called IAS officer.
He blamed the previous government for creating an undemocratic working environment, which is acting as a hurdle in the proper functioning of the government.
Industrialists should not be harassed in the state. I have been told that files remain pending for months. I give you a weeks time, and after a week, officers found with maximum pending files on their tables would be punished, he said.
Promising Industrialists that the government would give them all the support,Akhilesh said that while UP is ahead in production of wheat, sugarcane and even milk but states like Punjab and Gujarat take all the credit due to their publicity tactics. He also reminded industrialists that how the UP government has made land available to central government for setting up AIIMS in Rae Bareli free of cost.
Earlier, president,Indian Industries Association,Jugal Kishore,in his speech, had launched a broadside at the state government. I am sorry to say this but the UP government sits on urgent files for at least eight to nine months. It is high time they defined the time-limit for urgent work. There is no deadline for government departments to release our payments. When reminded about it,they threaten to black-list our companies from future tenders. said Kishore in the presence of the Chief Minister and Minister for Micro,Small and Medium scale industries Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar.
Kishore also raised the issue of frequent transfers of senior officers in the state,By the time any officer understands our problem and tries to come out with some solution,he is transferred.
State Govt to return land to Amroha farmers
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has assured a delegation of farmers from Amroha that their land will not be acquired for construction of Reserve Police Lines in their district. Nearly 50 acres of agricultural land has been acquired in Amroha for the construction of Reserve Police Lines at Zoya village in Amroha. Farmers, led by Minister of State for Transport Mehboob Ali,met Akhilesh at his official residence and requested him to cancel the acquisition,as the agricultural land was their sole source of livelihood. An official press release stated that the CM has assured that they will not be dispossessed from their land and that Reserve Police Lines will be constructed elsewhere.
