CBI arrests 10 persons in Mau gangrape case

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation Delhi on Tuesday arrested 10 persons in connection with a case related to gangrape and arson incidents that had happened five years ago in Mau district.

The court had recently issued non-bailable warrant against the accused. The accused include two 65-year-old persons.

The case is related to an incident of alleged gangrape with a mother-daughter duo and their house was set on fire by a mob during the communal tension in City Kotwali area on October 14,2005. The case was registered against 15 persons.

The Mau Superintendent of Police (SP),Onkar Singh,said the investigation into the case had been handed over to the CBI in 2006. The chargesheet had already been submitted in the court and trial is going on.

The SP said that the accused belonging to Rahjania and Nawabpurwa localities arrested today were out on bail from the court,but they had not been appearing in the hearing of the case.

The CBI team had contacted him seeking his help in the arrest,Singh said.
