Briefly State: Heat wave in eastern UP

Heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh with temperatures remaining markedly normal. Met office sources here said that weather was mainly dry over the state and the heat wave would continue for the next couple of days.

Met office sources here said that weather was mainly dry over the state and the heat wave would continue for the next couple of days. Day temperatures were markedly above normal in Gorakhpur,Varanasi,Faizabad and Allahabad divisions,appreciably above normal in Kanpur,Lucknow,Bareilly,Moradabad,Meerut divisions and above normal in Jhansi,Agra divisions. Highest maximum temperature in the state was 45.5°C recorded at Allahabad,sources said.

Two booked for killing leopard

LUCKNOW: Two villagers have been booked for allegedly killing a leopard in Gurusahaiganj area of Kannauj.

Forest officials have lodged a case against Pramod Kumar and Vikas Kumar,both residents of Madhuapur village of the area,on Monday. Neither was arrested. The two allegedly led a mob of unidentified villagers which attacked the leopard after it strayed near the village on Saturday night. The leopard was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and sticks,and it suffered injuries at seven places on its body. Forest officials said the villagers attacked the leopard after it injured two men.

Village head booked for NREGA ‘fraud’

Ballia: A case has been registered against a village head and two others for illegally withdrawing MNREGS funds without getting any work done,police said on Monday. The FIR was lodged against Chilkahar village head Manoj Kumar Saini and two others at Gadwar police station on Sunday after District Magistrate Vijyendra Pandiyan detected the fraud,they said. The village head and two others withdrew Rs 71,380 in two instalments.

2 Nepalese arrested with 8 kg charas

Mahrajganj: Two Nepalese citizens were arrested and eight kg of contraband worth Rs 8 lakh in the international market was allegedly recovered from them by the Sashastra Seema Bal on the Indo-Nepal border here.
