The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya

HC grants bail to Raja Bhaiyya

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya,currently lodged in a jail at Bareilly,in a case under the Gangster Act.

Justice S K Gupta observed that when two other persons,arrested and later slapped with the Gangster Act along with Raja Bhaiyya,have already been granted bail,there was no reason why the same should be refused to the legislator.

Raja Bhaiyya and his supporters were arrested following an FIR lodged at Kunda police station in December last year by some BSP supporters who had accused the MLA and his aides of trying to murder a candidate of the Mayawati-led party during the panchayat elections in the city.

Auraiya murder verdict on April 11

LUCKNOW: The special court,which hearing the murder case of PWD engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta — he was killed in his house in Auraiya allegedly by BSP legislator Shekhar Tiwari and others in December 2008 — has fixed April 15 for the pronouncement of judgment.

Judge Virendra Kumar said if needed,the defence may file written arguments on April 11.

Special Counsel for Prosecution IB Singh said,“The court fixed April 15 for judgment after continuous arguments in the case for about a month.”

Gupta was killed allegedly when he refused to meet the MLA’s demand for money on the occasion of CM Mayawati’s birthday.
