BJP invites applications from workers ‘to fill top statutory posts at Centre’

Sources said the party is collecting bio-data of party workers from all the states and sending them to New Delhi.

To nominate its own men to  top posts of statutory bodies of Central government by replacing those nominated by the previous UPA regime, the BJP-led NDA government has started a preliminary exercise of collecting bio-data from party workers.

BJP national headquarters has invited applicants interested in getting placed on positions that grant them rank of ministers with various other facilities to submit their details. Party leaders who already hold organisational posts have been asked not to apply.

Sources say the party is collecting bio-data of workers from all the states.

In UP, party state vice-president Shiv Pratap Shukla has been assigned with the responsibility to collect the details and send them to BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ramlal who will short list the names on the basis of qualification of the applicants.

Shukla confirmed he was collecting bio-data from the applicants and added some of them have already been forwarded to the Delhi headquarters. “I received a call from the party state headquarters a few days ago and was asked to send names of the party workers along with their address, contact details, educational qualification and area of expertise. I have forwarded names of over a dozen persons who have expertise in law, medical, and social work,” said a party regional president.

A senior party leader said bio-data of lawyers are being sent on preference because the Centre has to appoint government counsels and fill other legal positions. “Appointments in other statuary bodies like national commissions and directorates are likely to be made after the Budget session,” the leader added.

While asking for the names, party state unit has also informed the local workers that acceptance of bio-data does not mean a confirmed appointment because such bio-data were being collected from other states as well.

Another senior party leader said party workers in UP are expected to get preference on most of such nominations as the party won 71 Lok Sabha seats from here and it wants to keep the cadre intact until the 2017 Assembly elections.

Another reason for such expectation is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with eight other Union ministers including party national president Rajnath Singh, were elected from UP.
