After Congress leader Digivijay Singh’s visit,Azamgarh will soon witness some more high-profile visits, though for a completely different reason.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan with his friend Amar Singh and actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada will visit the eastern Uttar Pradesh town where they will donate computers to about half-a-dozen schools on February 26.

The function is being organised by Nishtha Foundation,of which Jaya Prada is the chairperson.

“We have decided to donate computers to some of the schools at Pakri area of Azamgarh in a function scheduled to be held on February 26. I will visit the place along with other members of the organisation,” Jaya Prada told The Indian Express.

“The Nishtha Foundation keeps working for the betterment in the field of education and provides aid to such institutions,” she added.

The secretary of Nishtha Foundation,Dr Devendra Kumar, who is organising the function, said,“While Amar Singh and Jaya Prada are associated with the organisation,Amitabh Bachchan gave his consent for the function,as Jaya Bachchan is a member of the Foundation.”

“The process of shortlisting the names of the schools, where the computers are required,is currently going on and will be completed within a week. Besides,we would also ensure that the schools start teaching computer by next session,” Kumar added.

Asked about the reason behind selecting Azamgarh for such an initiative,Kumar said,“Azamgarh happens to be the native district of Amar Singh and he is also a member of Nistha Foundation. The eastern UP districts require such aids and so we chose Azamgarh to initiate the programme.”

Jaya Prada has also planned to establish two educational institutions in her constituency,Rampur. She,along with Amar Singh and Sanjay Dutt, will be attending the bhumi pujan for Nilaveni Krishna School of Nursing and Jaya Prada College of Law at Rampur on February 24.

“I have planned the nursing school in my mother’s name. These institutions will provide more opportunities to the people of the district,” Jaya Prada said.
