An FIR was lodged and one person was arrested after a clash between attendants of a patient and resident doctors of medicine department of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University today. The patient died during treatment at the hospital. The incident disrupted the hospital services for a few hours as resident doctors boycotted work protesting against the incident.
The patient,one 65 year old Raghunand Pratap Pandey,was admitted to the Gandhi Ward of CSMMU on June 12 after a paralysis attack,said Dr S N Shankhwar,chief medical superintendent of the hospital. He was critical and died today, he said. After the patients death,his attendants allegedly misbehaved with a lady resident doctor,which led to the clash between the resident doctors and attendants,he said.
An FIR was lodged against Amit Pandey,son of the patient,by resident doctor Lisa Das. Amit was arrested and later released on bail today, said station house officer Narendra Singh Rana.
Such attacks on resident doctors have become common in the university. We have decided to protest against the incident and are planning to boycott work tomorrow, said a resident doctor of the medicine department.
Shankhwar said that the resident doctors were angry,however,the teachers here were able to convince them not to disrupt the hospital service by boycotting work.
