Anomalies force Cong to scrutinise every membership form

The detection of serious irregularities during the random checking of membership forms in several divisions has forced the Congress to go for district-wise scrutiny of each form.

The detection of serious irregularities during the random checking of membership forms in several divisions has forced the Congress to go for district-wise scrutiny of each form.

The random checking has come as an eye opener for the party as,despite clear instructions, many forms did not carry photos and had fake addresses. In some, persons shown as newly-enrolled members did not even exist. The state unit of the Congress party, has issued orders to all districts to constitute scrutiny teams as soon as possible and send the names of team members to the state headquarters for approval.

The scrutiny teams will comprise district party president, district presidents of frontal organisations like Mahila Congress,Youth Congress; MLA,MP and MLCs from the area, and a PCC member.

The idea is to have teams with wide representation so that personal interests do not influence the scrutiny, said a Congress leader.

“Some of our divisional-level teams are still doing their job and they will be soon submitting their reports. Each of their complaints will be taken up seriously,” said R K Dwivedi,in-charge of the membership drive in the state.

“It is sad that some people are creating confusion. To ensure transparency, the scrutiny teams will soon start working at the district level,” Dwivedi added.

The scrutiny teams will be given a checklist, which includes photograph of the member, name of the block or ward to which the member belongs, booth number, signature of the recruiting person along with the signature of the member and also the date on which the form was submitted in the district. Surendra Singh,a member of the Azamgarh division team who was in Mau district to do the random checking of forms, said: “We have found that district offices have pasted photographs on the first few and the last few forms in the membership books each of which has 25 forms. I have informed the state headquarters and will be send a complete report to state party president Rita Bahuguna Joshi within the next few days.”

Anil Dubey, another member of the Azhamgarh division team who was in Balia, said,“While we are not tolerating major blunders,in some cases where we found that only some of the forms were incomplete,we asked the concerned partymen to correct them as soon as possible.”
