After bouquets,Sanjay Dutt had to face brickbats in Lucknow on Sunday,a day before the Supreme Court is to decide his political fate.
The Samajwadi Party candidate for the Lucknow seat had resumed campaigning after a brief stint in Mumbai. But his cavalcade was pelted with stones by protestors believed to be students of Lucknow University.
The last of the five-car fleet carrying his securitymen was hit, though no one was injured.
The actor had gone to the Lucknow University campus to meet film-maker Abhishek Tandon, son of Professor TK Tandon of Botany Department.
The visit was a private one. Abhishek, who is directing a film titled 72-hours,said he had approached Sanjay about a role. Since we both were in Lucknow today,he wanted to meet, said the film-maker,who had invited Dutt to his 28,Badshah Bagh residence. Dutt had accepted the script and was keen on the role,he said, but trouble began on their way back.
As the news of the actors arrival spread, hundreds of hostellers had gathered in the hope of meeting him. They waited for almost an hour before Dutt came out. He waved at the waiting crowd and signed a few autographs, but the crowd wanted more.
It was not possible for him to sign autographs and get clicked with everybody, said Abhishek. So we moved out in a hurry.
Angry fans,however,had a different take.
Now that he is contesting from here,he should stop behaving like a star and at least be courteous to people who wait to meet him, said Rudra,a student of Diamond Jubilee Hostel.
Party spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary said Dutt,a big star, should get adequate security during campaigning.
It is the administrations job to prevent such untoward incidents, he added.
