A day after his party named six candidates for the upcoming Assembly bypolls in UP, taking ally Congress by surprise, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said his party’s alliance with the Congress will continue.
Speaking to mediapersons in Etawah, where he paid tribute to his father and party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on his death anniversary, Akhilesh said, “I only want to say that INDIA bloc will be there. The SP and Congress alliance will remain intact…”
He, however, did not elaborate and said it was not the time to discuss politics. In a snub to the Congress, the SP on Wednesday named candidates for six seats, including Phulpur and Manjhwa, which the Congress is keen on contesting.
The SP’s announcement came in the wake of the Congress failing to return to power in Haryana. On being asked about his reaction to Haryana Assembly election results, Akhilesh said, “We will discuss this when we meet again.”
In the UP Assembly bypolls, the date for which is yet to be announced by the Election Commission, the Congress is keen on contesting five seats not won by ally SP in 2022.
