After the decomposed body of an abducted youth,Amit Jaiswal, was found on the banks of Tones in Meja in Allahabad on Sunday morning, the police — following protests by locals — claimed to have cracked the case by afternoon with the arrest of three persons.

Son of a medical shop owner,Jaiswal (22) was abducted from Naini area late on Thursday night. The family received a call from abductors on Friday,in which they demanded Rs 15 lakh as ransom.

“I had informed the police right in the beginning that my son was kidnapped. They did not take the matter seriously and thought he might have gone out with friends and would return,” said Amit’s father Suresh Jaiswal.

Angry over the alleged police inaction, the business community of the district held protests and demanded immediate suspension of the station officer of Naini police station.

By late afternoon, the police claimed that they had solved the case after arresting three persons identified as Raj Kumar Mishra, his brother-in-law MP Dubey and Sureshwar Mishra.

According to the police,Raj Kumar, whose house is located just opposite Amit’s medical shop, befriended him. Believing that Amit belonged to a rich family,he planned to abduct him with the help of Dubey and Sureshwar.

On Thursday night, they invited Amit for dinner at their house and laced his food with some drug to make him unconscious, said a police officer, adding that the trio later took Amit to a place in Akorha. The three then battered Amit to death and threw the body in the river the same night. Next morning, they called Amit’s father by using Amit’s mobile and demanded Rs 15 lakh for his safe release, said the police. Refusing to reveal the identity of the person at Akorha who helped the trio, the police said that they were still investigating the case.
