5 killed in UP as bus on way to wedding touches high-tension wire, catches fire
According to the police, the bus was carrying over 35 passengers when due to heavy traffic, the bus driver decided to take a shortcut, leading to some of the passengers getting down.

Five persons, including three women and a child, were killed and nine others injured when a private bus on way to a wedding caught fire near Mardah police station in Ghazipur district on Monday afternoon. Police said the bus came in contact with a high-tension wire, resulting in the fire.
The government suspended three officials — Executive Engineer Manish, Sub-Divisional Officer Santosh Chowdhury, and Junior Engineer Pradeep Rai. Lineman Narendra, who was working with the Electricity Department on a contract basis, has been sacked, a press note issued by the department said.
Most of the victims were relatives of the bride, who is from Ghazipur, while the groom hails from Mau district.
“A total of 14 people were affected, with five fatalities. While four of the injured persons have been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical aid, the remaining five are still hospitalised,” said Additional Director General (Varanasi Zone) Piyush Mordia, who reached the accident spot later in the day.

Condoling the loss of lives, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial aid of `5 lakh to the family of each of the deceased, and `50,000 to the seriously injured persons, and directed that free treatment be given to the injured. Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma met the injured persons. Sources said the minister ordered the suspension of the three officials and the sacking of the lineman.
