3 cops booked for missing weapons

The case was registered after inquiry conducted by senior district officials of the Pratapgarh.

After failing to locate an AK-47 rifle,four magazines and 100 cartridges that were kept at a safe room in Pratapgarh Reserve police lines,police on Tuesday lodged an FIR against three policemen who were posted there.

All the three — Ram Kumar Singh,Virendra Bahadur Singh and Lalta Prasad — booked are police armours,who are responsible for the safe room where arms and ammunition are kept. They have been booked under Section 409 of the IPC (criminal breach of trust by public servant). No one has,however,been arrested.

For the last two days,police conducted an inquiry to locate the missing arms and ammunition. They did not find any evidence to establish that arms and ammunition were stolen from inside the safe room. SP of Pratapgarh,Kiran S,said as per the records,the weapon went missing after August 8.

Meanwhile,police have beefed up security at the police lines,and outsiders have been barred from entering the campus .

The matter came into light after the SP directed the officials to physically verify arms and ammunition kept at the police lines.
