Father of minor gangrape victim shot dead in UP; accused’s kin ‘behind revenge attack’

In September, a case was registered against four men for allegedly gangraping the minor girl and recording the act. Among the four accused, two are brothers, while the third is their cousin. The police later arrested all four persons, who are currently in jail.

The gangrape accused and the victim are distant relatives.

On October 27, the victim’s father was shot dead while riding a motorcycle. Police said two unidentified men, with scarves covering their faces, intercepted him on the road and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Five people, all relatives of the gangrape accused, have been booked in the murder case. “So far, we have arrested two of them — the father of two accused and the wife of one — for their alleged role in planning and executing the murder,” said the Station House Officer of the concerned police station.

Police found during the probe that the shooters were hired to stop the victim’s father from pursuing the case in court.

Police said their preliminary investigation also revealed that the arrested suspects had visited the district jail to meet the gangrape accused before the killing. During these meetings, they allegedly conspired to eliminate the victim’s father, whom they blamed for “implicating” their family members in the rape case.

Police said efforts were underway to trace and arrest the shooters involved in the crime. 

They declined to disclose further details about the case, stating that the investigation was still in progress. Officials said sharing specific information at this stage could hamper ongoing inquiries and efforts to trace other persons involved in the conspiracy.
