West Bengal CPIM re-elects Md Selim as state secretary

After a four-day state party conference at Dankuni, the CPIM unanimously elected an 80-member state committee

Md Selim was re-elected as the state secretary of the West Bengal unit of the CPI(M) on Tuesday. After a four-day state party conference at Dankuni, the CPI(M) announced an 80-member state committee which was elected from the conference unanimously. After the first meeting of the state committee, Selim was re-elected.

Of the 80 members, 14 are women while six are new to the party: Pijush Misra, Tirthankar Roy, Shukul Sikder, Kenij Rabiul Fatima (Aleya), Goutam Ghosh and Santanu De.

Five veteran leaders have also been included in the state committee — Biman Bose, Suryakanta Misra, Rabin Dev, Amiya Patra, and Jibesh Sarkar. Meanwhile, Veteran leader Sushanta Ghosh and All India Secretary of DYFI Himaghnaraj Bhattacharya have been excluded from the state committee.

In a 2022 state conference of the CPI(M), Selim was elected for the first time as the state secretary. However, under his leadership, the CPIM failed to secure a single seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He also lost in his constituency, Murshidabad.
