Vehicles galore at no-parking zones,cops helpless

Naresh Rai,a taxi driver,was seen parking his vehicle on the no-parking side. “I do not know that this is a no-parking zone. A few cars are also parked here. Before the police catch me for parking on wrong side,they should check the private cars,” said Rai.

N Thakur,another taxi driver,who parked his vehicle near the no-parking zone,said passengers often want to be dropped near such zones. “What can we do if my passenger gets off here,” he said.

The traffic police posted near High Court,however,claimed that they were often helpless to do anything. “We tell the drivers not to park here but they rarely listen,” said a traffic constable posted near Kiron Shankar Rai Road.

K Harirajan,Joint Commissioner (Traffic),said the traffic police have been trying to ensure that drivers follow no-parking rule.

“Most drivers park on both sides of Kiron Shankar Rai Road. But we managed to check it. Yesterday’s incident was blown out of proportion because some private car owners with political connections decided to gain mileage from the situation as they were not allowed to park their cars in the no-parking zone,” he said.

After the scuffle between the constable and the taxi driver on Tuesday,Trinamool chief had stepped in and staged a protest against the alleged police atrocities.
