Months after he jumped parole, failing to return to Delhi’s Tihar jail, gangster Mohammad Sohrab, who operates out of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Kolkata by a joint team of Delhi Police and Kolkata Police, said police on Tuesday.
According to sources, Sohrab, convicted in the 2011 Rs 1 crore jewellery showroom loot and murder case, had been evading the authorities since July.
Kolkata Police received a tip-off about Sohrab’s whereabouts, prompting a joint raid by Delhi Police and Park Street police, said the sources. Sohrab was reportedly working as an app-based motorbike driver in Kolkata before his arrest from Ripon Street, using someone else’s identity card, said sources. He is currently being held at the Park Street police station.

Sohrab’s parole ended on July 1, but he failed to report back to Tihar Jail. The authorities alerted the Delhi Police, which launched a manhunt and issued alerts to multiple state police forces, including the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the Kolkata Police, to track his movements.
Mohammad Sohrab, along with his brothers Salim and Rustam, is a notorious gangster from Lucknow with a history of violent crimes. The brothers have been lodged in Tihar Jail for several years. Sohrab’s gang gained notoriety after their youngest brother, Shehzade, was murdered in Hussain Ganj in 2004. A year later, the gang killed three individuals at different locations in Lucknow.
