On TMC’s win anniversary, BJP remembers poll violence victims

The party organised the programme on the second anniversary of the TMC’s landslide victory in the 2021 Assembly polls.

The BJP on Tuesday performed tarpan at Babu Ghat to pay tribute to its workers who have been killed allegedly in political violence in West Bengal after the 2021 Assembly polls.

The party organised the programme on the second anniversary of the TMC’s landslide victory in the 2021 Assembly polls.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said May 2 has been turned into a dark day in the history of Bengal. Majumdar wrote in a tweet, “2nd May 2021 – A dark day in the history of WB. TMC workers unleashed macabre violence on BJP Karyakartas. Rape, arson, murder and loot continued across the state for months…”

During a programme at Esplanade, the BJP also released a list of of party workers who were killed in post-poll violence. Some family members of the victims were present at the event.

BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee, senior party leader Rahul Sinha among others were present. They slammed Mamata Banerjee government for failing to check on atrocities against Opposition workers.

Mrityunjay’s family seeks CBI probe

The family members of Mrityunjay Barman, who was shot dead in Kaliyaganj, has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe into the case. Mritunjay’s brother Mrinalkanti Barman drew the attention of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha seeking permission to file a case in connection with Mritunjay’s death. The High Court has allowed the filing of the case.

The case is likely to be heard on Wednesday. Barman’s family filed a complaint with the Raiganj SP, accusing an assistant sub-inspector of opening fire killing him “without any provocation” sometime after 2 am on April 27. The CID is probing the case.
