Targeting MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Banerjee said, "Congress is the B-team of the BJP. The Congress never wrote a single letter to Prime Minister urging him to clear dues of Bengal. (express photo) Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday said that the party will win 40 out of 42 parliamentary seats in West Bengal in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a workers’ meeting as part of his ‘Jan Sanjog Yatra’ in Murshidabad district, the Diamond Harbour MP said, “If we had 34-35 seats instead of 22, could the Center have withheld the state’s funds? We will meet the target of 40. We want to win three out of three constituencies in Murshidabad district.”
Targeting MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Banerjee said, “Congress is the B-team of the BJP. The Congress never wrote a single letter to Prime Minister urging him to clear dues of Bengal. If Adhir Chowdhury can prove that he wrote a single letter to the Centre, I will quit politics.”
Chowdhury said, “Let me make it clear to the Chief Minister that you will not get even one seat in Murshidabad. I challenge her or Abhishek to contest against me. If I lose to the Trinamool from Beharampur, I will quit politics.”
On Saturday, the TMC leader had alleged that opposition Congress and CPI(M) are only interested in projecting CM Mamata Banerjee in a bad light.
“No Congress leader, including Adhir Choudhury, wrote a single letter flagging the non-payment of 100 days’ work wages to the people of Bengal for months. From the soil of Murshidabad, I hereby ask Choudhury if he ever took up the issue with the Centre?” he had questioned.
