The TMC Saturday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticisms on corruption “sound hollow” as he shared the stage with leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari who is an accused in the Narada case.

State Women and Child Development Minister Shashi Panja said, “Bengal gets to see the PM only when elections are around the corner. He came in 2021 and he is again coming back before the ensuing general elections,” Panja said. Responding to the PM’s attack on the TMC over allegations of corruption, Panja said, “May we ask why he shared the stage with Narada-tainted BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari?”

Panja also attacked the BJP-led government at the Centre for holding back funds for schemes such as the MGNREGA.

CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty said, “The PM today came to know that the TMC transformed scheme into scam…. Central agencies started inquiry but midway they stopped their investigation, why?…We have heard that on Friday a Modi-Mamata meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere. That means a final understanding… (has been arrived at). But the people of Bengal are not fools. They understand everything.”
