BJP state chief Sukanta Majumdar said the ruling TMC was “usurping” the resources of West Bengal and “depriving people”. Majumdar’s remarks come days after the arrest of state forest minister Jyoti Priya Mallick in connection with alleged irregularities in ration distribution in the state.

Majumdar was speaking during the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ organised by the BJP in the city on Sunday. Senior BJP leaders like BJP MP Dilip Ghosh, MLA Agnimitra Paul, senior leader Rahul Sinha and others attended the rally which was taken out from College Square to Esplanade.

Addressing party workers, Majumdar said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is paying homage to the great sons of the country with the ‘Meri Mati, Mera Desh’ initiative. Here, the TMC is usurping the resources of the state and depriving the people. After the arrest of state minister Partha Chatterjee last year, now another minister Jyoti Priya Mallick has been arrested for corruption.”

BJP MP Dilip Ghosh also targeted the ruling party and said, “If all such ministers land in jail, then where would they hold the next cabinet meeting? It would be held in jail as corruption of others will come to light in the days to come.”

Reacting to their remarks, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen said, “BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is making false allegations against us, but central agencies are not questioning him even though he was named in the FIRs in Narada case and Saradha chit fund scam.”

Meanwhile, as part of the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’, around 1,400 people with soil collected from 344 blocks of the state will travel to New Delhi in a special train from the Kolkata railway station on Monday. As part of the campaign, soil collected from more than 7,000 blocks in 766 districts of the country will be placed at the ‘Amrit Vatika’, a monument to be built near the National War Memorial in Delhi.
