The CPI-Maoist has included 19 persons from West Bengal in its list of women who died in the Naxalite movement.

The list — published in a two-part book called Women Martyrs of Indian Revolution — includes Tapasi Malik,an activist of the Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee who was allegedly raped and burnt by CPM goons during the anti-land acquisition movement in Singur. Tapasi was well known in the area as a Trinamool member. However,in the list of the women martyrs, the CPI-Maoist has mentioned Tapasi as a member of its students’ organization. When contacted,Tapasi’s father Manoranjan Malik refused comment.

The Naxalite women martyrs since the Naxalbari movement include 18 from the CPI-Maoist from the state.

Like Tapasi,Savitri Soren,a Lalgarh rebel, was also allegedly raped and killed by CPM armed cadres and the joint forces in Pirband near Lalgarh on January 16,2010,the book says. The CPI-Maoist has also published the names of female squad members who were killed in the encounter at Barikul in Bankura on February 1,2010,and at Dhuli village in Salboni in West Midnapore on June 26,2010.

According to the book, four Lalgarh rebels including Aasumani Murmu,Chudamani,Thakurmani Soren and Dhanamani Murmu were killed by the joint forces in Bankura in February,2010,while Chandmoni Tudu,Ganga and Jamuna Mahato — all of them squad members according to the book — were killed by joint forces in Salboni.
