SSKM Group D staff plays doctor: Probe ordered

The state Health Department on Friday ordered an inquiry into a Group D staff stitching the wound of a youth in the emergency department of the premier state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

The inquiry was ordered by Health Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya after some media reported the incident and a local news TV channel telecast footage of the staff stitching the wound of the youth on Thursday.

Senior SSKM officials said that at times when the emergency department was crowded some Group D employees,who had been trained to do such work stitched and dressed wounds.

Sources said,“We are inquiring into whether doctors present at the time were attending to other more critical patients.”
