Slugfest in TMC over party worker’s murder; Barrackpore MP, Jagaddal MLA trade charges

On November 21, three armed assailants astride a motorcycle shot at TMC worker Vicky Yadav from point-blank range near his house late Tuesday evening and fled the scene, said police, adding that Yadav died on the way to a private hospital in Kolkata.

Sanjit was produced before a local court and was sent to police custody for 14 days.

Sanjit’s family claimed that on Thursday, he was summoned by the intelligence department of the Barrackpore Commissionerate in another case and that after the questioning, he was arrested. “Sanjit is the mastermind behind the murder. However, Sanjit doesn’t move even a finger without Arjun Singh’s approval. So, Arjun Singh is also involved in the murder,” the MLA alleged.

Hitting back at Shyam, Arjun Singh said Pankaj alias Imran, the alleged main accused arrested in the case, was standing next to Shyam while cutting his birthday cake and the MLA was naming my nephew.

“The one who is taking my name in the case is the same person who roams around with the murder accused. Even before Yadav’s murder, Shyam would try to implicate Sanjit. Shyam has become a police minister, guiding and influencing policemen. I have full trust in Mamata Banerjee, but he is enjoying someone’s support.”

Taking a dig at the ruling party over the arrest, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said, “Phew! Mamata Police arrested Arjun Singh’s Nephew. What a ‘homecoming’ reward to Arjun Singh from Aunt-Nephew combo, the message is loud & clear; they call the shots and you look like dumb.”
