In a development in the Short Street shooting case,Police Saturday seized Rs 82 lakh in cash from the bank locker of one of the accused who is in custody.
Promoter Pinakesh Dutta was arrested Thursday for his alleged involvement in the shooting case followed by a long drawn property dispute over the premises of 9A,Short Street,in the Park Street area.
According to sources in the police,Dutta has admitted during interrogation that there was a deal between him and Pinakesh Dutta to capture the premises of 9A Short Street. The deal was sealed after Majumdar,who is also arrested in the case,agreed to give him Rs 1.5 crore for the work.
Pinakesh,who was afraid of being caught by the bank authorities,did not deposit the money in his account. Instead,he kept Rs 82 lakh in the locker of a nationalised bank.
After interrogating Dutta,police Saturday raided the Jadavpur branch of the bank from where Rs 82 lakh were recovered from Dutta s personal locker,said a senior police official.
Dutta has also admitted that the security agency that sent bouncers to the premises on Monday,received a payment of Rs 3.5 crore for the work, said a senior police official requesting anonymity.
He further added a team of sleuths would Sunday check the financial transactions made through Duttas account.
Dutta was Friday remanded in four days of police custody.
