Sandip Ghosh removed from list of medical practitioners

According to sources, his registration to practice as a doctor is effectively cancelled. All doctors have to be registered with the Council in order to practice.

The West Bengal Medical Council on Thursday cancelled the registration of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, said an official, adding that he has been removed from the list of Registered Medical Practitioners maintained by the WBMC.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the Council stated, “In view of non-receipt of any explanation what-so-ever even after lapse of 13 days from you in response to the ‘Show Cause Notice’ issued by this Council vide No. 2420 – 2421 – C / 37 – 2024 of 6th September 2024, your name is removed from the Register of Registered Medical Practitioner being maintained by this Council w.e.f 19th September , 2-24..”

Ghosh is an orthopaedic surgeon and his licence was cancelled under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act of 1914, an official said. Notably, Ghosh was a member of the Council and part of its ethics committee. Currently, he is in CBI custody for his alleged role in tampering with the evidence in the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor at R G Kar Medical College. Ghosh, was earlier arrested by the same agency for his links into financial irregularities and corruption at RG Kar.
