(Photo: X@SajjanBhajanka)Reacting to the news of him being conferred with the Padma Shri award, Kolkata-based industrialist Sajjan Bhajanka Sunday said his family was delighted with the development.
“My daughters are very excited,” added Bhajanka, Executive Chairman, Century Plyboards (India) Ltd.
“Yesterday (Saturday) evening I got a call from the Ministry (of Home Affairs) to confirm the spelling of my name and to give my consent. It is always good to get such a prestigious award,” he further said.
An economics graduate from Dibrugarh University, Bhajanka has extensive experience in the plywood and cement industries.
Founded in 1986, his company, Century Plyboards, has become one of the leading plywood manufacturers in the country.
Talking about his business model, Bhajanka emphasised gradual growth and innovation while maintaining a debt-free status.
He is involved in various social organisations, “dedicating 30 per cent of his time to social welfare initiatives.”
The Centre announced the list of recipients for the Padma Awards on the eve of Republic Day. This year, 139 people have been conferred with Padma Awards, comprising seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards.
