Sacrifice killing? Priest detained

Police have detained a priest after residents of Kolakuri village near Saltora in Bankura have accused him of killing a newborn and offered the head to goddess Kali at a crematorium. According to reports,local people spotted a new born child’s head hanging from the hand of a Kali idol inside the crematorium at around 4 p.m on Sunday. The priest was seen offering puja sitting in front of the deity. They beat up the priest and charged him of killing the new born,fo.llowing which the Police was informed. ” We have detained the priest,but no one has lodged a formal complaint of human sacrifice. We are interrogating the priest,” Pranab Kumar,SP,Bankura said. According to locals,the priest lived in the crematorium for last 15 years. Local people had approached him seeking remedy for their day-to day issues. The priest used to solve their problems through ‘tantra sadhna’. After the head of the new born was spotted,the priest told the locals that he got it from another place. He also denied the charges of killing the newborn. “We have not received complaint of theft of a new born. No missing diary has been registered in the police station. We are probing the case,” Kumar said.
