Saboteur Manik held in Mayurbhanj

The police on Wednesday picked up Manik Mahato,close associate of Bapi Mahato,the prime accused in the Jnaneswari Express sabotage case.

The police on Wednesday picked up Manik Mahato,close associate of Bapi Mahato,the prime accused in the Jnaneswari Express sabotage case. Manik Mahato will be produced in the Jhargram ACJM court on Thursday in the Jnaneswari case.

We arrested Manik Mahato today. He is one of the key members of the conspiracy to execute the sabotage plan on the rail track. He was arrested by the Bengal police from Mayurbhanj district in Orissa, said Zulfiqar Hassan,IG,Western range. Manik was hiding in a relatives house in the district. He played an important role in the execution of the plan, added Hassan.

Sources said that after receiving a specific tip-off on Monday,the police picked up two PCAPA members from Sardiha. We first picked up Ajoy Mahato and Bijoy Mahato from the Manikpara area. We had information that they knew about Manik Mahatos hide-out, said the sources.

After interrogating them,we came to know that Manik along with some other members of the group had gone undercover in Orissa. We picked up Manik from Orissa, they added.

A senior police official informed,Manik was present at the spot. Since Bapi was not present at the spot,Manik was assigned the job of executing the sabotage. He instructed the people working at the spot about what they would have to do.

Manik,a 22-year-old member of the PCAPA,is apparently the closest associate of Bapi. At the time when Bapi was hounded by a CPI(Maoist) squad,Manik used to accompany Bapi in the Indraboni forest. He used to feed him information about the Maoist squad,added the official.
