The Left Front ally,RSP,has asked big brother CPM to take lesson from the Bhopal gas tragedy and move cautiously in the Nayachar project.
The party has said the proposed chemical hub at Nayachar should be stalled unless all aspects are being examined. RSP leader and State PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami told The Indian Express: The Bhopal incident, which killed more that 25,000 people, has opened our eye. The disaster can take place at Nayachar also. The government should be cautious before setting up massive chemical factories in the state.
We will continue to oppose a chemical SEZ in the state. The government is keen to set up the hub at Nayachar, but we opposed the idea because the MNCs will set up factories here and will not take any liability in case of accidents and pollution, said Goswami.
CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sens plan to establish a chemical hub at Nayachar,an island at East Midnapore, has already secured approval of the Centre. At present the project is awaiting environment ministrys nod.
