THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday told the Calcutta High Court that it was ready to probe the Saradha Group chit fund scam if the court directed it to do so.
The central probe agency, which has been made a party in a PIL that has sought a CBI probe into the scam, also urged the High Court to direct the state government to provide required manpower and logistic support to it in the interest of the investigation.
According to a source in the CBI,the agency would not be able to conduct a probe into the Saradha scam without the assistance of the state government as there is a shortage of manpower in the CBIs Kolkata office.
Meanwhile,All India Legal Aid Forum submitted an application to the bench opposing any move to handover the probe to the CBI,saying the central agency has failed to act on the 18-page letter sent to it by Saradha Group CMD Sudipta Sen in which he had named several politicians, including ruling Trinamool MPs.
The hearing in the case will come up Wednesday.
