R-Day amid tight security,alert sounded

A special security alert has been sounded throughout West Bengal as a precautionary measure to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations.

“Even as there is no specific threat perception in the state,a special alert has been sounded as a precautionary measure,” said state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the districts and border areas.

Constant surveillance would be maintained at all major intersections in the metropolis,said Sen,adding there would be surveillance by the Air Force to avert para-glider attack.

Over 5,000 additional police personnel along with those of the Rapid Action Force would be deployed in the city.

While closed-circuit TV cameras will be installed at 60 strategic points,city police commissioner and senior officials would remain on duty,said the Home Secretary.

Special vigil would be maintained at railway stations,airport,metro stations,border areas,shopping malls,markets and other public places,including vital installations,said Sen.
