The protesting PTTI students have finally conceded and agreed to undergo another year of training through a bridge course,as suggested by the state government.
The National Council of teachers Education (NCTE) has also suggested the state government to give training to these students according to the rules laid down by the council.
The PTTI students discussed the issue extensively on Sunday and discussed their course of action. Last week they had met School Education Minister Partha De and Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee over the issue.
Prabir Ghosh, the state secretary of PTTI students union, said there is a consensus among the students to go for the bridge course,as there is no other option left for the students.
Of the 34,000 students caught in the crisis without a job,30 percent of the students have a Higher Secondary certificate with a less than 50 per cent marks and these students need some exemption from the NCTE,the students union representatives say.
The students were enrolled for the PTTI diploma by the state government in a one-year course with a minimum qualification of Class X. This was done not taking into account the guidelines set by NCTE of a Higher Secondary certificate and 50 per cent marks.
Mamata Banerjee told us that if the problem could not be solved in the last few years by the UPA government with the support of the Left, how could she be expected to solve it in a month, said Ghosh.
The state government appears to heave a sigh of relief in this case and is quickly acting on the issue.
Even the School Education department has asked the chairman of the primary education council to list the students across the 142 PTTIs in the state having a higher secondary certificate with 50 per cent marks.
