Politics of appeasement going on, no action taken: BJP MP Locket Chatterjee

According to reports, Chatterjee was stopped at the gate of the Commissionerate and detained by the police, but was later allowed to enter. However, when she reached inside, she got to know that Chandannagar Police Commissioner wasn't present in his office.

Days after clashes during Ram Navami processions rocked parts of Howrah and Hooghly districts, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Hooghly Locket Chatterjee Wednesday hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and accused the administration of not doing anything even as repeated incidents of violence were reported in the state.

The BJP state general secretary made the statement while talking to reporters outside the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate where she had reached to meet the Police Commissioner Amit P Javalgi along with a group of her party workers.  On being asked about the purpose of her visit, Chatterjee said “There is politics of appeasement going on in Bengal. No action was being taken by the administration despite one incident after another.”

According to reports, Chatterjee was stopped at the gate of the Commissionerate and detained by the police, but was later allowed to enter. However, when she reached inside, she got to know that Chandannagar Police Commissioner wasn’t present in his office. The BJP MP submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Rani.

Targeting chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP MP said, “Why are such incidents happening again and again in Bengal? No proper action has been taken in the riots. The politics of appeasement is going on in Bengal. The police are arresting those who have been attacked. The state government has not yet taken any action to pelt stones on trains. If such incidents continue, Bengal will become Kashmir.”

“Mamata Banerjee focuses only on Ramzan but does not care about other festivals such as Navratri and Ram Navami,” she added.   In Howrah and Hoogly, in a string of clashes that began on a street during a Ram Navami procession last week, which has kept these two districts tense for nearly five days.
