Repolling at 21 booths in Burdwan,five at Hooghly,and one each at Binpur and Daspur in West Midnapore was peaceful

Repolling at 21 booths in Burdwan,five at Hooghly,and one each at Binpur and Daspur in West Midnapore was peaceful. The polling percentages were as follows: Burdwan 68.22%,Hooghly 69%,Binpur 75% and Daspur 67%.

Mollah in jail,moves plea to vote

Sattar Mollah,CPM leader from South 24 Parganas district who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a Trinamool Congress supporter in Bhangar,was remanded in jail custody today.

Advocate Uday Shankar Chatterjee,counsel of Mollah,moved a plea before Justice Sanjib Banerjee for a court order so that Mollah can cast his vote in the panchayat poll. Mollah’s arrest was politically motivated and he was not involved in the murder case,Chatterjee said. Justice Banerjee said he would hear the case tomorrow. South 24 Parganas goes to vote on Friday.

Independent candidate abducted

Independent candidate Rabilal Soren was allegedly

kidnapped and his house set on fire on Wednesday night at Gopalpur village near Kasba under Bolpur subdivision in Birbhum district,police sources said. The candidate’s wife,Radhi Soren,claimed that the house was set on fire at midnight and her husband,a TMC-supported Independent candidate,kidnapped. A complaint was filed at Panrui police station.
