The Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) today set a forest beat office on fire at Dahijuri near Lalgarh. In the past 24 hours, this is the second incident in which a government property has been set on fire by the outfit’s activists who have been demanding that two of their leaders picked up the police on December 6 be produced in court.

Around 60-70 PCAPA activists today also stopped a bus coming from Orissa and going to Nadia in West Bengal on NH-6 near Jamboni and ransacked the belonging of the passengers. After a few hours, they allowed the bus to move.

“We want to know if Raju and Jaideb (the PCAPA members allegedly picked up by the police) are not in police custody, then where did they go? They were arrested by the joint forces on December 6 and there are hundreds of eye-witnesses. Unless the police produce them in court,we will continue with the rampage everyday as the police and joint forces have forced us to take up arms,” said Asit Mahato, convener of the PCAPA.
