One of the two victims was a CPM supporter-turned PCAPA member, while the other person remained unidentified as he had been beheaded and the police recovered his torso only.
According to a senior officer, the bullet-ridden body spotted near Bhatmore in Salboni has been identified as that of Ranjit Mahato, who had been missing since Wednesday morning from his Changshole residence.
Mahato had joined the PCAPA a few months ago after being threatened by its members. But he used to stay at home mostly, due to threat to his life. On Wednesday morning,he went out of his residence for some urgent work and was abducted by the Maoists,an officer said. Maoist posters were found near his body claiming responsibility for his murder.
