One more arrested in Jnaneswari case

The CBI arrested Lakhikanto Roy alias Rekha,an accused in the Jnaneswari Express case,from a village in Manikpara in Jhargram police station area on Monday.

The CBI arrested Lakhikanto Roy alias Rekha,an accused in the Jnaneswari Express case,from a village in Manikpara in Jhargram police station area on Monday. He is in police custody and will be handed over to the CBI on Tuesday,said a senior police officer. According to him,Rekha’s name was mentioned by Bapi Mahato,the prime accused in the case. The CBI had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to his arrest. “We have begun interrogating him,” the officer said. “The CBI officers are verifying his involvement in the Jnaneswari case. He will be handed over to the CBI tomorrow and will be produced in Jhargram court.” Two CPM workers,meanwhile,were gunned down by the Maoists on Sunday in Nayagram. According to a senior officer of Nayagram police station,Nishikanto Nayek and Sankar Jana,along with three other villagers,were abducted by the Maoists on Saturday. “The bullet-ridden bodies of Nayek and Jana were spotted near the Kadamdiha forest on Sunday morning,” the officer said. “Maoist posters were found near the bodies,which stated that they had been punished for working as armed cadres of the CPM.” The other three were released by Maoists and they were found innocent in the Kangaroo court,he added.
