One person was injured in a blast at the Calcutta National Medical College at Gora Chand Road today.
The incident happened around 8.45 am near the medicine ward on the Ram Mohan block of the hospital. Amit,a sweeper at the hospital,said he saw a polythene packet while sweeping. When he picked it,it exploded. Amit was hurt in his eyes and head.
Four fire engines were rushed to the spot and later the bomb squad sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. Officials of the bomb squad later said no traces of explosives were found and that the blast could have been due to a chemical reaction.
Minister of state for health said it could be a case of sabotage and added there would be an inquiry into the incident.
