According to sources, Banerjee, who is also the TMC chief, will be reviewing the ruling party’s progress in north Bengal in the wake of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, TMC won only one seat in Malda district. Of the other seven Lok Sabha seats in north Bengal, BJP got six and Congress one.
A senior TMC leader said, “We recovered from the losses the party suffered after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. We did well in north Bengal in the Assembly, panchayat and civic elections. So, we are expecting good results in north Bengal this time because Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are focusing on the region.”
After boarding a private flight from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport to the Bagdogra International Airport, Banerjee travelled to Kurseong by road. On December 8, Banerjee will attend an administrative programme at Kurseong and then visit Alipurduar. On December 10, the CM will attend a programme at Alipurduar Stadium. The CM will then go to Jalpaiguri on December 11 from Alipurduar. There, the CM will attend an official programme at Banarhat. Banerjee is likely to distribute land rights documents to residents of tea gardens, officials said.
The Chief Minister will visit Siliguri the same day after the Bannerhat event. She will then attend an official function at the Kanchenjunga Stadium on December 12. She will return to Kolkata the same day.
