Kolkata to ring in New Year with warm weather, fog likely in north Bengal

On Christmas Day, the temperature in Kolkata and surrounding areas was close to 17 degrees Celsius. Usually, the mercury level around this time of the year is around 14 degrees Celsius.

The weather office said while the temperature levels are likely to remain stable over the next few days in Kolkata, some districts in south and north Bengal may experience morning fog. Officials also predicted higher temperatures in the northern and western parts of the state. There is no chance of rain in north Bengal.

“The air entering the state through the Bay of Bengal has more water vapour. On the other hand, the dry north-westerly winds are comparatively weaker. As a result, the weather in the state is ‘warmer’ than normal. Temperatures in Kolkata and surrounding areas are at least 2 to 3 degrees higher,” said an official.
