Transport Minister Madan Mitra,who also holds the additional portfolio of sports department,seems to be the one minister who receives the largest number of visitors at his offices,both at Writers Buildings and at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Interestingly quite a few of them come there for registration of their clubs. The reason is quite obvious. The government has distributed Rs 2 lakh to each of the 50 clubs and it is going to give away the same amount of money to another 50 clubs. Last week,the minister was heard shouting at one such visitor: Do you think I am a milch minister? From where do I get so much money? But the man only gave a sheepish smile and stayed back.

That the Congress does not want to antagonise its principal partner in the UPA,the Trinamool Congress,was obvious again when Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had to wait for about eight minutes for the arrival of Minister of State for shipping Mukul Roy before the inauguration of the NSG regional hub at Kolkata. And Roy after reaching the venue showed his watch to Chidambaram saying he was on right time. ”No Mukul,you have come on right time,I have come in advance, Chidambaram replied to Roy with a smile.

Mingling cadres

At the end of Sundays rally at Brigade Parade Ground,people were witness to a scene that is hardly seen at any CPM rally. As top leaders left the dais scores of CPM cadres thronged the stage and started to talk to the leaders and take their snaps. Some of them just moved around freely and the leaders had to make fervent appeals to them to leave the stage,something which is seen in Congress or Trinamool Congress rallies.
