Speech Effect
CPM state secretary Biman Boses press conference on last Friday at party headquarters at Alimuddin Street, had a soporific effect on the assembled media people as many of them dozed off during the long speech of the party secretary. But it was the microphone which finally revolted and started blaring an ear-splitting sound that woke up everybody.
Bose realised the situation and commented, tongue in cheek: The microphone could not understand what I was saying and probably that is why it developed a snag. And wise politician as he is,he cut short his speech and started taking questions from journalists.
Work Culture
The office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer got a dose of the Election Commission of Indias work culture. Yesterday, when one political party approached the CEO office requesting it to send instruction to Malda district administration for use of a helicopter, the CEO office refused to comply saying it was a Saturday. The party then approached the ECI in Delhi directly and within a few hours the representatives of the party were invited by the CEO office to come over and meet the concerned officials.
Future CM?
At yesterdays roadshow at Jadavpur, the person who invited the maximum attention after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was Satarup Ghosh,CPM candidate from Kasba, who at 25 is the youngest of Left Front contestants. Scores of CPM supporters who gathered on either side of the road along which the Chief Ministers vehicle moved, cheered at the handsome student leader who is pitted against Trinamool Congress heavyweight candidate Javed Khan. He is our future CM, quipped a young girl waving desperately at the young politician.
No takers for IPL
The IPL match in Kolkata on Monday between Kolkata Riders and Deccan Chargers is likely to be a drab affair with hardly any enthusiasm witnessed for the match. While the upcoming Assembly election is the main reason behind this indifference, the absence of Saurav Ganguly and some other cricketers are also the other two reasons. At the office of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at Eden Gardens, the officials also seem to be more interested in the Assembly elections than the IPL show at Eden Gardens which will host seven matches.
