Kolkata’s 2nd Hooghly Bridge closed for 8 hours today: Check traffic diversions here

Kolkata Traffic Update, Vidyasagar Setu Closure: The vehicles will be diverted via alternate routes during the eight designated hours on Sunday.

Second Hooghly Bridge: The Vidyasagar Setu, also known as the second Hooghly bridge, which serves as a major entry point to Kolkata, remains fully closed between 6 am and 2 pm on Sunday (November 2), according to an order released by Kolkata Traffic Police.

Why is the bridge closed

The movement of all types of vehicles are restricted to ply along the Vidyasagar Setu and its ramps during the first half of the day, the order stated, citing repair and rehabilitation of the bridge, including replacement of stay and holding down cables and bearings.

The vehicles will be diverted via alternate routes during the eight designated hours on Sunday, the Kolkata Traffic Police order added, in the interest of public safety and convenience.

Here’s the list of traffic routes that will be affected, and the alternate roads you can take to reach the Howrah bridge:

🔴 All types of west-bound vehicles, coming along the AJC Bose Road from Zeerut Island side towards Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Turf View via Grade Road towards Hasting Crossing, finally taking the St. Georges Gate Road — Strand Road — Howrah Bridge. Those vehicles can also take a right turn from Hasting Crossing to K P Road.

🔴 West bound all types of vehicles, coming along K P Road from J & N Island island side towards the bridge, will be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hasting Crossing and avail the St. Georges Gate Road — Strand Road — Howrah Bridge.

🔴 Next, all types of vehicles (East bound), coming along CGR Road from Khidderpore side towards the 2nd bridge, will be diverted from Hasting Crossing to take left and avail the St. Georges Gate Road — Strand Road — Howrah Bridge.

🔴 Moreover, all types of vehicles of K P Road directly availing the 2nd Hooghly bridge via ramp at Y-point near Ghora Pass, will also be diverted from the Y-point towards 11 Furlong Gate, finally towards K P Road — Red Road for the Howrah bridge.

🔴 As and when required, vehicular traffic will also be diverted through arterial roads, the order added.
