Intelligence agencies issue terror attack alert in Kolkata

“We have increased security in public places, and have alerted the local police stations to take immediate action in case of suspicious activities,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

STATE INTELLIGENCE agencies have allegedly alerted the Kolkata Police about a possible terror attack in and around the city in the next few days.

Sources said police have especially been asked to tighten security in Park Street and Bidhannagar areas. “We have received inputs from the intelligence department to be extra cautious, as there might be a terror attack in Kolkata or in any public place under Bidhannagar Police Commissionarate.

“We have increased security in public places, and have alerted the local police stations to take immediate action in case of suspicious activities,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

“There is nothing to panic about, but we can’t take any chances, so we have beefed up security,” said another officer.
Sources said while security has been beefed up in public places, including malls and restaurants, police have also increased patrolling and are conducting vigorous checking at entry and exit points of Kolkata.
