The summit at Copenhagen might have been a dampener, but designers across the globe this season, are into fashion with a conscience. Anything artificially processed is passé,on the ramp and off it.
Hemant Sagars latest collection, called Green plays around with eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton-poplin,wild silk, khadi and handloom silk. The drapes are flowy, and Sagar makes ample use of camouflage embroidery and cutouts that mimic bamboo and frangipani leaves to enhance the natural feel. What you wrap around your body is what you wrap around your soulthis collection is a reflection of our green philosophy and our belief that eco-friendly and luxury can co exist, says Sagar.
Flowy silhouettes continue to dominate designer Ritu
Kumars young and happy collection as well. I have been working with eco-fabrics for a while now,so the latest collection is no exception, says
Kumar, who has again used a blend of fabrics like raw silk, cotton and organic fabric. There are cheery kurtis and tunics in loose and easy silhouettes as well as tights. Tights are making a big impression this season, says Ritu.
Introducing a flux of colours,Anupama Dayal says her spring-summer collection takes off on the theme of Green Planet meets Avatar. A palette of white, nudes, coral and green in breezy fabrics like sheers and organza dominate her line. The silhouettes are cut close to the body. My clothes this season are for the full-bodied woman. There is nothing in size zero, she says. Short and full length skirts make a come backin particular the drape skirt. So far as accessories are concerned,Dayal says clogs will make a major impression this season.
Designer Atsu Sekhoses line is elegant chic accentuated by light Grecian and Indian drapes. Bright azures, pastels, nudes, greens and purples rule the palette. His line includes loose pants; chic jumpsuits and everything apropos to feeling relaxed this summer. My colours are all bright and summery, with particular emphasis on shades of coral, says Sekhose, who just showcased his collection at the Milan Fashion Week.
