GJM wants PM to step in

The GJM on Wednesday sought intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Gorkhaland issue saying it was a political problem

Darjeeling: The GJM on Wednesday sought intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Gorkhaland issue saying it was a political problem. “The central government and the Prime Minister should intervene. It is not a law and order problem. It is a political problem. The people in the hills want Gorkhaland. If the people can get Telengana, why don’t we get Gorkhaland?” GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said.

Guv refuses to mediate

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan Wednesday ruled out the possibility of his mediation in the Darjeeling conflict saying,“I hope they (state government and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) find a way out of it. I think an earnest effort will be made by both the sides.” He said being the Governor,“I cannot mediate in the Darjeeling matter” and added that “If I go (to the hills),it will add to the confusion.”
