Giriraj Singh’s remarks on CM reflect BJP misogynistic attitude: TMC
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Singh had said, “Jashn mana rahi hai, thumke laga rahi hai. Yeh uchit nahi hai (She is celebrating, dancing. This is not appropriate).”

A day after Union Minister Giriraj Singh took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister for participating in a film festival, the ruling TMC on Wednesday said the BJP leader’s remarks show the “misogynistic mindset” of his party. Banerjee was seen dancing on stage alongside actors Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha and Sonakshi Sinha during the inauguration of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Singh had said, “Jashn mana rahi hai, thumke laga rahi hai. Yeh uchit nahi hai (She is celebrating, dancing. This is not appropriate).”
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, State minister Shashi Panja said, “We would ask the BJP who gave them the right to disrespect a woman? Giriraj Singh is a Union Minister holding a position of responsibility…We can understand the character of his party leaders (from his remarks). This is BJP’s culture.”
TMC’s national spokesperson Sushmita Dev said, “To pass a comment and then mimic her (Mamata Banerjee) the way he did only shows the shameful and misogynistic mindset of BJP…They (the BJP) simply cannot swallow the fact that they repeatedly lose to her popularity.”
Meanwhile, Banerjee, when approached by reporters at Bagdogra airport, said, “I don’t know how to dance. I dance with tribals to support them. They (Bollywood actors) pulled my hand and asked me to join, so I obliged. We respect Bollywood so this is just a step, nothing else, but it’s good to meet everybody.”
